MACROVASCULAR COMPLICATION

This category of complication involves the disease of large blood vessels. It can bring consequences to many cardiovascular problems such as chest pain (angina), heart attack, stroke, and narrowing of the arteries (atherosclerosis).

1) Hyperlipidemia

Raised triglycerides level but with reduced HDL cholesterol level (good cholesterol).
The accumulation of fat causes the formation of a plaque within the arteries wall. This lead to  narrowing of arteries (atherosclerosis) followed by hardening of arteries. Once the brain arteries rupture, bleeding stroke will occur.

2) Hypertension

Increased blood pressure which exceeds 130/80 mmHg.
This happens when there is too much glucose molecules accumulate in the blood vessel. This causes the blood to become more concentrated thus lowering the effectiveness of oxygen transportation.  Failure of oxygen transportation to the heart causes the cardiac tissues start to die and finally lead to heart attack.
