Diabetes and complications


There may be an injury or disorder developing gradually in a patient with diabetes over years. If a person develops diabetes earlier in life, the less controlled blood sugar will increase the risk of complications. Diabetic complications affect all of the body. It may be mild or even life-threatening.


There are two major complications such as macrovascular and microvascular.

 a)    Macrovascular diseases
This category of complication involves the disease of large blood vessels. It can bring consequences to  many cardiovascular problems such as chest pain (angina), heart attack, stroke, and narrowing of the arteries (atherosclerosis).

1) Hyperlipidemia
2) Hypertension 

b)   Microvascular diseases
This category of complication involves the disease of small blood vessels. Commonly, it involves:

1) Retinopathy
2) Nephropathy 
3) Neuropathy
